Goals and strategies

I. Develop collection in quantity and quality, meeting the various knowledge needs from the users

  • Finding funds for the library collection development and sustain the annual development in both quantity and quality.
  • Deepen the collection evaluation and make sure of the effective use of the library collection development budget.
  • Develop and put the long-term conservation policy into practice, so that will benefit the availability and accessibility of the collection in the long-term.
  • Enrich the digital resources and gradually increase the ratio of digital resources in the overall library collection every year.

II. Build a flexible space and make library a third place for users

  • Promote the library space reformation and build up a smart and energy-saving library that satisfies the needs from various users.
  • Plan and develop the space for the library collection for the long-term management.

III. Enhance the academic research services, supporting the scholarly communication and the research life cycle.

  • Strengthen the library use course, incorporate with the scholarly communication and the life cycle.
  • Make use of the informetrics to assist scholars, departments and university to evaluate the impact factor.
  • Encourage scholars to develop self-archive, keeping all the academic research resources.
  • Encourage scholars to provide open access to their research results and resources, increasing the visibility of our scholars and research outcomes.
  • Introducing new technology, space and services to support the digitalization of academic research.

IV. Strengthen the information literacy and all-around reading, cultivating talents for both humanity and culture and science.

  • Make use of various pedagogies and teaching platforms, enhancing users’ information literacy.
  • Promote humanity and science reading, cultivating leadership for both humanity and science.
  • Organize NTNU reading festival, cultivating the lifeline reading habits.
  • Encourage library users to form book clubs, creating their own value via learning and study together.

V. School history and special collection curation, passing down the cultural assets and add value on to the national heritage.

  • Coordinate the resources from inside and outside the campus, develop university archives and special collection to support, strengthen, and promote the research on university history and special collection.
  • Establish a well-organized space for university archive and special collection, improving the maintenance of hardware and software and providing a fine environment for university archive and special collection.
  • Develop and manage the university archive and special collection with innovation and novelty, providing a foundation for developing digital humanities and cultures research platform.
  • Participate actively in the research process, building up the partnership between library and the digital humanity researchers

VI. Increase the quality and capacity in cultural and creative products and the university press, showing the novelty

  • Build up the image of the University Press, promote the core value and establish the independent brand.
  • Build up a complete and perfect publishing platform and contribute in publishing outstanding research monographs and publications.
  • Develop the unique cultural and creative products integrated with the university identity system to promote the university public image.
  • Strengthen the various marketing strategies and channels, increasing the visibility of publication and cultural and creative products.

VII. Introduce digital technology to build up the smart library and information services.

  • Introducing the self-service technology, bring new technology experience for users.
  • Improving the mobilization of the library services, making the smart library everywhere for users.
  • Develop Big Data analysis tools to support the decision on library business.
  • Encourage scholars to provide open access to research results and resources, increasing the visibility of our scholars and research outcomes.
  • Keep up with the development of technology and introduce the service into the library service when it is suitable.

VIII. Deepen the cooperation and partnership, increasing the visibility and influence of library.

  • Strengthen the user interaction and participation with the library via multiple ways to help users familiar with the library resources and services and use them.
  • Strengthen the cooperative relationships with other departments, increasing the visibility and the influence on the university level.
  • Cooperate and interact with globally influential university libraries for real communication and exchange, increasing g the visibility and the influence on the international level.
  • Organize or participate in library organizations or alliance, expanding the library collection and resources for users.
  • Develop an industry-university cooperation project, helping the industry to provide the services that meet the library need.

IX. Leading the library space and the service toward international, improving a more international atmosphere on campus

  • Strengthen the bilingual library website service, providing a better user friendly service for foreign teachers and students.
  • Improving the library facilities with bilingual guidance so that the foreign teachers and students can make better use of the library space.
  • Strengthen the library use course in bilingual languages so that the foreign teachers and students would learn better about how to make use of library resources.
  • Improving the library guide in bilingual languages, so that foreign teachers and students will be more familiar with library.

X. Conduct outcome evaluation and professional development scheme, pursuing in providing excellent library services

  • Build up a learning organization, plan and implement goal-directed professional development for colleagues.
  • Establish grants and subsidy system to encourage colleagues to publish or present their professional works.
  • Encourage colleagues to be creative and try new ideas, bringing innovation into our library services.
  • Conduct user outcome assessment to state the library value.
  • Conduct administrative reform and reorganization.
